Someone asked me today, “What is ‘rape culture’ anyway? I’m tired of hearing about it.”

Yeah, I hear ya. I’m tired of talking about it. But I’m going to keep talking about it because people like you keep asking that question.

Rape culture is when a group of athletes rape a young girl, and though there are dozens of witnesses, no one says, “Stop.”

Rape culture is when a group of athletes rape a young girl, and though there are dozens of witnesses, they can’t get anyone to come forward.

  1. I loved the article when I read it. So smart and so right. It is hard to strike the right tone about these issues. The topic is so exasperating because the point is so clear to so many and so not clear to so many more. The issue is not just about rape but about how some classes of people are favored over others. Don’t mess with the “cool” kids you know? It is a shame that “cool” which is usually conferred upon the athletically gifted is often a mask for antisocial personality traits.

    1. Yeh basically….sociopaths. And it’s really sad, I actually just commented on a post by a young girl. Who was like sexual assualt is hitting the lottery, and every woman needs to “lower” her chances female = 1 ticket, sexy clothes and night out is 4 tickets and so on.

Just because I have XX chromosome, shouldn’t mean I should expect sexual violence during my lifetime. How about we teach men not to rape?

We need to talk to our children and next generation about sexual consent and respecting each other.

  2. It is a sad state of affairs when someone would gloat about raping or taking advantage of another human being. It is just more of the devaluation of women so that they are no more than sexual objects. Now there is discussion about a song by Rick Ross where he brags about giving a woman a date rape drug and taking advantage of her. These people need to be called out and embarrassed on how their behavior is reflecting on our youth and culture.
